Welcome to Journaling with Laura Lu
Often times, when we go
through something dramatic in our lives, we tend to hold on to our thoughts,
emotions, and feelings; we keep them bottled up inside. Expression through
journaling is a good way to release what you truly feel inside, to put it out there
and let it be. As Michele Weldon, author of Writing
to Save Your Life says, “Use your words to listen to what is inside of
you.”
Your journal does not
have to be all about writing either. Get creative with it! Use pictures, paint,
draw, color, whatever your heart desires. This is your journal; it’s your
expression, which is a part of your unique personality. Make it your own!
Your journal can remain
private for only you to read, or you could choose to share it with others. The
choice is all yours. Each journal entry should allow you to creatively explore what you’re going through as a
person. “The therapy of writing is not only medicine for the soul but
also a microscope to analyze intellectually and creatively your role in the
world and your reactions and insights to whatever it is you need to tell,” says
Weldon. This is exactly what you should do with your own journal.
“The writing can serve
as the beginning of a longer, more profound evolution,” says Weldon. These
entries may also expose personal beliefs and opinions on topics you may not
have realized you felt so strongly about. Most importantly, your journal should
take you through an informal way of writing to express your thoughts and
expound on, or even discover new ideas, thoughts, emotions, and feelings.
May your journaling
experience help you heal and stay positive throughout your life struggles, and
for those never having journaled before, may you learn to express yourself in a
new way you never imagined possible.

My Story and Why Journal? From there, check out the different ways to journal
and how to get started in How to Journal. In the Writing Prompts section, you
will find a weekly writing prompt to try on your own. I will write my response
to the writing prompt as an example of what to do or how to go about it.
